About

In 2020, due to the pandemic, the Middlesex Food Shelf was forced to close. Middlesex resident David Carkeet, long-time volunteer and chair of the Middlesex Food Shelf at the time, shifted to giving cash grants of $200 to Middlesex residents in need. It was during this time that Dave and Liz Scharf, another Middlesex resident and long-time Food Shelf volunteer, decided to move forward with the creation of a community fund that could do this work more formally. And from that point forward, the wheels were put in motion for the formation of the Middlesex Community Fund.

The Board of Directors of the Fund includes Brigid Browning, Karen Brown, Maribeth Domanski, Bobbi Grothe-Penney, Theresa Mann,  Amy Rose, Thea Schwartz, Susan Warren, and Patrick Wood. David Carkeet serves as an advisor. The Board views the Fund as a “community bank account” to be accessed by those who live and work in Middlesex.
